Hello, I'm Rosie, founder and owner of Rosie Louise Cut Flowers. Nothing pleases me more than a slow walk through the garden with a cup of tea and a small dog. As a trained horticulturist and retail florist, I have seen many stages from the world of cut flower production. I aim to grow seasonal cut flowers with fragrance, charm, beautiful colour and a sense of being cut straight from a Scottish garden. I enjoy varieties which can produce interesting flowers, foliage, berries and seed heads.

The farm is located next to the beautiful Victorian walled garden of Preston Hall Estate, just outside Edinburgh. The west wall of the garden runs alongside our field and still holds handwritten metal labels from the espalier fruit trees that used to grow there. â€‹

We work using no-dig practices; this means we aim to disturb the soil as little as possible. No-dig also means that we feed the earth by mulching with organic matter, such as composted horse manure, leaves, coffee chaff and homemade compost. This way of working is more time efficient but also allows the soil ecosystem to flourish in peace and feed the crops.

No chemicals or plastic sheeting is used on the farm.

Our flower varieties are carefully selected to provide fragrance, colour and a real sense of life. I was lucky enough to grow up with a rambling cottage garden, full of fruits, vegetables and flowers growing together. The charm and energy from this childhood garden is definitely reminiscent in the farm flowers.

The harvesting season begins in late March with double tulips, narcissus, ranunculus and anemones. Sweet peas are a very special crop for us and we grow an overwhelming amount for both flowers and foliage. Summer harvest includes scented peonies, David Austin roses, dahlia, phlox, zinnia and cosmos.

The season ends between October and November.
